Probiotics For Animals

Just as a human being, your four-footed friend may have digestive upset due to a disproportionate balance of the friendly bacteria in the digestive tract. Horses, dogs, and even cats can wind up not processing food properly due to an unbalanced digestive tract.

It's a hard thing to think about, but illness can strike your four-footed friend just as it can strike you. Viral illnesses, digestive tract problems, immune deficiency problems, and others can all affect how they process and use food as energy. When they can no longer process food properly, their system begins to have even more problems. So when your four-footed friend becomes ill, consider adding probiotics to their diet in order to keep the hind gut flora functioning as it should.

Many older horses may suddenly start to lose weight, have a poor hair coat, have trouble combating worms or other parasites, and have an all over ill or unhealthy appearance. This is often due to an unbalanced digestive tract. As the digestive tract ages it does not metabolized food as easily as it used to, and they can have trouble producing the good digestive tract bacteria and enzymes they need to process food. This is where probiotic supplements can make the difference between an older horse growing older gracefully, or looking like a skeleton of bones. If you're aged member of your horse family is having trouble maintaining weight and you have ruled out other health problems, try adding a probiotics supplement to their diet, and see if they don't pick up.

Older dogs and cats can have the same problem, as they age their metabolism slows down and they can have trouble keeping their digestive tract in balance. A probiotic supplement can allow your aged friend to look good, feel good, and keep a healthy immune system. Your veterinarian can recommend the proper probiotics supplement for you pet, just ask anytime your aged pet is sick, stressed, injured or is just not thrifty and growing well.

Of course another time to add probiotics to the diet of your four-footed friend is any time they have an immune deficiency. This can come from stress, viral or bacterial infections, injury, long-term illness, or even a change of diet. Helping your pet recover from illness and helping them create a good immune system can be helped along with a probiotic supplement.

You'll find a variety of different ways to introduce the probiotics into your pet . There are pills, powders, and liquids, and they all can be used as a top dressing, given as a bolus, can be syringed into the mouth. If you have problems with your pet's thriftiness, if they are not growing as they should, are having trouble maintaining weight, or have recently gone through very stressful situation, ask your feed store, pet store, or veterinarian about probiotics for animals, and help your best friend get back to health.

Dear Dr. Fox: Our 17-year-old Maltese is failing. He has limited vision and hearing, and his hind legs and hips are weak. We feed him your home recipe, but lately he can't seem to keep it down. We find bits of brown rice in his vomit, and his stools are loose. We took him to the vet, and he suggested a bitter-tasting medicine to stop the nausea. We're hesitant to give him any more drugs. The ...
