Acidophilus Probiotics for Your Health

Acidophilus probiotics are excellent for your health, also known as friendly bacteria, they can actually suppress the growth of different types of harmful bacteria, improve your own immune system, and help your digestive tract function properly.

Most people don't realize that that within the human digestive tract is over 400 different species of microorganisms. These are the microorganisms that help you process food, and the good friendly bacteria needs to be there in order for you to feel good, process food, and convert food energy.

Many different things can affect the digestive tract probiotics including a sudden change of diet, prescription antibiotics, environmental toxins, too low of dietary fiber, and infant formulas. When this happens, the bad bacteria can take over, reducing the efficiency of the digestive tract causing stomach upset, intestinal track upset, excessive gas, and possible dangerous conditions such as bacterial diarrhea and vaginal yeast infections.

Probiotics especially those that contain acidophilus can be found very easily in a variety of different forms. Not only is there the natural form that you'll find in yogurt and sauerkraut, but there are also a variety of acidophilus probiotics in liquid form, powder, and tablet form. You can actually find acidophilus drinks in many different types of health food stores and even if some regular grocery stores and especially in Asian groceries.

If you're not processing your food right you can find yourself with a lack of energy, constant bowel changes such as diarrhea and constipation, and have an overall feeling of unwellness. Acidophilus bacteria are especially good at balancing the digestive tract and bowel and it's great for vaginal yeast infections. A simple dose of yogurt with acidophilus cultures can eliminate the yeast infection within the vagina completely.

It's important to realize that as a rule your digestive tract is well balanced with good bacteria and bad bacteria, and should process food very well. It's when an incident has occurred that affects the balance of bacteria that you may need to take supplements. It is not recommended that you take probiotics supplements on a regular basis unless you have a condition that warrants it.

As we age it may become difficult for our body to stay in balance when it comes to the bacteria in the digestive tract. Continual weight loss, diarrhea and a feeling of unwellness, may indicate that an older person's digestive tract is no longer functioning properly. This is when supplementation of probiotics can be extremely beneficial. You'll usually see results within a few days, especially if it's a diarrheal problem.

Probiotics especially of the acidophilus and lactobacillus forms can be very easy to find and use. Look into your health food stores, in the dairy section of your grocery stores and in a variety of specialty stores.
